LINUX HP LASERJET P1006 PORTABLE
Maybe someone could write a portable batch type file to reset it on the fly.> Maybe a silly question, but do you have the hplip packages installed? I have only been able to get it to work by having a minimal Windows partition to reset it (by printing there) then rebooting into Linux. The caveat still applies that you can't move this printer from one linux box to another. (It may take a few resets of the printer to recognise the new driver). You may be prompted to re-enter your user name and password. Finish the installation of the printer as normal.

(you are now in the HP Linux Imaging & Printing System Printer/Fax Setup Utility)ġ1. Check the box to accept the "Driver Plug-In License Agreement" and click "Next". (if it says it failed select the YES option to continue)ġ0.

An by the way, even though CUPS finds this printer it has no driver for it.ġ. Launch a command-line window as the super user and run hp-setup. Hope this helps if you struggled with the setup as I have. The methodology may be slightly different with other flavours of Linux but the basics should be the same. I used the following method with OpenSuse. I now have it working in Ubuntu 8.04, Mandriva 9 & OpenSuse 11.2 (but not yet in Debian) thanks to the following I picked up on-line. You have been very considerate and it is appreciated. In closing thank you very much for all of your help & time. The printer seems to accept Windows but baulks at multiple foreign linux drivers, although in this instance they are the same foo printer driver on both boxes.Īlthough the problem is not acceptably resolved I certainly learned sonething from the saga. Thus it is apparent that the open source foo driver has no probability of working when moving from my Ubuntu box to the Debian box,so I am stymied and there is really no point in pursuing the matter any further.

This confirmation by HP is a reply to my query of moving between linux boxes (with different linux operating systems) and the printer not working when doing so.The printer accepts Windows but baulks at overlaying it with multiple foreign linux drivers and, accordingly, it will only accept one linux box, multiple windows boxes or a multi boot box of the two. This is,as we know, left to third parties to manage. HP has confirmed, as expected, that their drivers only work with Windows and some other operating systems, but not linux. Is there a terminal command to see what is going on with these driver repositories etc?

Perhaps there is also a need to step back and see if what cups should be seeing is really there. This raises the question how does the non-guru user work out what url to use in the first place. You mentioned in an earler post that I should not have to paste the url but there seems to be now other way here as all it gives is examples of urls-so I've been pasting the url hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_P1006?serial=AC2LW1E. It presently shows "devices for LaserJet" as AppSocketHP-JetDirect" & "device URL" is blank.

If we can get rid of that driver my next questions regards cups. Is there a command to get rid of this driver which seems to be prevailing over the foo driver. In any event cups only supports HPLIP 3.10.4.16 so its not going to work. So why is the usb connection only seeing the HPLIP driver 3.10.5 originally installed and not the foo drivers subsequently installed?

All that cups sees is Virtual PDF Printer (CUPS-PDF)?Įven with no printer setup the usb connection gives the message "requires a proprietary plugin-HP Laserjet is ready for printing"
